Research Abstract |
A Mediterranean diet has been associated with lower risk of various age-related diseases including dementia. We investigated the association between cognitive function and a Mediterranean diet using perilla oil. After 24 months of intervention, cognitive function tests in Mediterranean diet group are higher than those in control group. Erythrocyte plasma membrane levels of alpha-linolenic acid increased in Mediterranean diet group compared with control group. We observed beneficial effects of a Mediterranean diet with perilla oil for 24 months on cognitive function in elderly people.
