Research Abstract |
General walking (GW) and Nordic (stock) walking (NW) were performed in a forest environment wearing a portable telemetric gas analysis system (K4b2). NW showed much more energy expenditure than GW. Feeling of pleasantness and arteriosclerosis index improved by repetitive NW. NW is suggested to be beneficial for prevention and amelioration of life style related diseases. We made a lecture concerning those results at the international congress. We also measured energy expenditure at the walking courses in Ootaki, Jozankei and Hokkaido university areas and made walking maps, which help health promoption activities for residents and vititors.
