Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Disc1 is a risk gene of schizophrenia, a common psychiatric disease. In this research, difference between Disc1-lacking mice and wild-type mice was analyzed. No significant difference was found in regard to the cell architecture and neurite extension of neurons in various brain regions, and to neurogenesis in the developing cerebral cortex and in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of adult mice. In the behavior tests implicated as a hallmark for psychiatric disorders, Disc1-lacking mice demonstrated higher locomotor activity and a lower score in the contextual fear conditioning compared to wild-type mice.
