Patients with pancreatic ductal carcinoma (PDAC) are dismal prognosis due to absence of effective modality to diagnose at early stage. We have recently developed a novel targeting nanoparticle for PDAC using fucose receptor mediated-endocytosis (PLoS ONE, 2012). Our nanoparticles carrying anti-cancer drugs could specifically delivered agents to PDAC cells and suppressed tumor growth. We then utilized this strategy for diagnosing PDAC as a novel ultrasound imaging. We encapsulated perfulbutane (PFB) into our nanoparticles and succeeded to image PDAC as a tumor in xenografted rat model using ultrasound sonography.
