Outline of Final Research Achievements

Cancer stem cells play an important role in cancer metastases. Recently, it has been reported that cancer stem cells exist not only in tumor tissue but also in peripheral blood. However, the conventional systems fail to detect circulating tumor stem cells (CTSC) because the rate of CTSC in peripheral blood is very low. In a previous study of ours, we developed a cell microarray chip with 20,944 microchambers (105 μm width and 50 μm depth). We could analyze 2,000,000 leukocytes on a cell microarray chip. In the present study, we developed a sensitive, simple, and accurate system to detect CTSC using a cell microarray chip.
