Outline of Final Research Achievements

We investigated the sleep-regulatory mechanism by the striatum. We divided the striatum to rostral, central, and caudal parts, activated each region, and measured sleep amount of each animal based on electroencephalogram/electromyogram recordings. Activation of the rostral striatum increased sleep. These results suggest that the rostral striatum may regulate sleep.
