| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research produced project-based materials containing: 1) systematically-designed contents that nurtured learner autonomy, and 2) a deeper understanding of materials’ design theory, and 3) skills for life-long learning as a global citizen. Students of various levels were able to succeed using these materials. Lower-level remedial students (Under CEFR level A1) gradually became open to writing English sentences, and finally challenged themselves to write longer sentences expressing personal opinions and experiences. Furthermore, Advanced-level learners (CEFR B2 or C1) were able to produce similar successful results by expanding tasks.
These flexible materials were designed for multiple subject areas and can be used in a wide range of levels or contexts, from elementary schools to university classes. Additionally, by understanding the theory behind this approach, teachers can freely decide to use only some of the tasks or customize the tasks to their specific needs.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は、グローバル人材として活躍できる生涯学習者の育成という社会の期待に、学力不足を含む多様な学習者をどのように近づけられるかという問いに答える一端として、まず、学習者の学びの視点から教材開発を行った。英語を苦手とする学習者が、英語を学びたいと思ったときに、一人でも実行可能なプログラムを提供することは、自律した学習者の育成につながる。また、学びを意識した課題の提供及び、協同的に学習を進める手法の提供は、小学校、中・高等学校での利用を可能にするという意味において、教育的・社会的意義が高いと考えられる。
