Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Recntly, aminolevulinic acid (ALA) is used as a photosensitive substance in the photodynamic diagnosis of bladder cancer. It was revealed that the expression of heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) was increased by the addition of ALA in cancer cells. The increased expression of p21 induced by HO-1 led G1 arrest in cell cycle, resulted in anti-tumor effects. In conclusion, this study demonstrated ALA was effective substance for cancer therapy.
