Research Abstract |
Theory of consolidation expressed by means of the Terzaghi model has been made use of estimates of settlement of clay ground. This experimentation model of soil consolidation is based on the theory of consolidation concerning clay ground, and the consolidation phenomenon can be experimented with using this apparatus. In the mechanical analogy presented above, the spring represents the compressible soil skeleton of a mass of saturated soil, and the water in the cylinder represents the the water in the voids of the soil. The stopcock opening is analogous to the permeability, the compressibility of spring to the compressibility of soil. The more compressible the soil, the long the time required for consolidation; the more permeable the soil, the shorter the time required.
