| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aimed to establish a new academic field called Reconciliation Studies and clarify its philosophical and theoretical significance in the context of escalating conflicts over historical perceptions in East Asia. This research resulted in the publication of the achievements of the director and the research collaborators in two volumes of the Reconciliation Studies series: Volume 1, "An Attempt at Reconciliation Studies: Memory, Emotion, and Values," and Volume 2, "Reconciliation and Justice as Aporia: History, Theory, and Project." The significance and characteristics of Reconciliation Studies were presented as four theses in those works. Additionally, this study established an international collaborative research framework to disseminate the significance of reconciliation in East Asia internationally, leading to the founding of the International Association for Reconciliation Studies in the 2020 academic year.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
和解学という新しい学問分野を提案し、東アジアの歴史和解に対する思想的・理論的関心を高めることができた。本研究は、1)和解という現象の重層的性格、2）和解をめぐる実践知の意義と必要性、3)和解をめぐる東アジア的文脈の固有性（戦争責任と植民地責任の連続性、冷戦や一神教的基盤の不在に由来する和解をめぐる対話の困難さ）、4)東アジアにおける和解のグローバルな貢献の可能性を、学術的に明らかにすることにより、東アジアにおける和解を、国境を超えた対話を通じて実践していくためのプラットフォームの構築に貢献した。
