Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We investigated the relationship between noradrenaline transporter (NET) in the brain measured by PET and the degree of loss aversion assessed with an economic experiment in healthy control. We found that individuals with high density of thalamic NET tend to show reckless decision-making (low loss aversion). However, when it comes to gambling disorder patients, there were two subtypes in terms of loss aversion (low and high loss aversion groups). High loss aversion group showed cautious decision-making, which was counterintuitive. High loss aversion group showed differential brain volume reduction in the orbitofrontal cortex. The findings suggest that treatment for gamble disorders should be provided depending on the subtype.
