Research Abstract

本年度は平成6年10月〜11月にアメリカやヨーロッパの博物館で標本比較調査を平成6年11月〜12月に中国西南部雲南省で野外調査を行った。なお、野外調査で収集した試料は阪神大震災の影響で入手が3月に入ってからになったのでほとんど解析が進んでいない。
博物館での標本比較調査は主としてユーラシア大陸各地から産出した新生代後期の長鼻目と奇蹄目の化石を中心に行った。長鼻目ではテトラロフォドン属とステゴドン科について奇蹄目ではサイ科とバク上科について詳しく生物計測学的および形態学的なデータを収集した。来年度以降の比較を通じて、これらのグループの系統解析を進める予定である。
中国雲南省での野外調査は元謀盆地で行った。ヒト上科化石の多く発見されている竹棚-小河地域と、この地域と同層準とされる元謀盆地南部の甘棠地域の標準層序模式地で岩石層序を確立し、堆積学的な解析を行った。このような詳し層序に従って古環境解析のための微化石分析用試料と古地磁気試料を収集した。また、予備的に放射年代測定用に最新の感度のよい線量計でヒト上科化石産出層準付近の年間線量の計測を行った。これらの試料についての解析は始まったばかりであるが、来年度の早い時期を目指して分析を行っている。
中国から招聘した研究者を含めて2月の日本古生物学会1995年年会で元謀盆地の研究結果の現状についてワークショップを行い50名ちかい参加のもと活発な議論を行った。またこの際に、中国側はESR年代測定の試験試料としてヒト上科化石産出層準付近より産出した化石を持参し、来年度からの地質年代測定の準備を行った。
4月には日本地質学会年会でユーラシアと北アメリカの新生代後期哺乳動物群と古環境の変遷史に関する夜間小集会を予定している。
