Research Abstract	紫外線、電子線、低温プラズマ、スパッターエッチングなどの高エネルギー処理による高分子材料の改質は医療高分子などの分野を中心にすでに実用化段階にあるが、繊維加工への応用にはまだ多くの検討課題が残されている。本研究は、最近急速に発展してきたレーザー技術、電子技術、プラズマ処理技術などを背景に、これらを繊維加工、あるいは染色に応用し、繊維の特性をこれらの技術によって改質し、染色性、あるいは堅牢性の向上、さらにはこれらの技術の応用によって従来に無い新規な染色法を確立することを目的として展開した。紫外線、低温プラズマ、スパッターエッチングなどの高エネルギー処理を施した繊維高分子材料は、その処理部位に物理化学的な改変が起こり、結果としてその後の染色過程において色素の収着性が変化する。このような現象を利用すれば、繊維高分子の改質のみならず、染色性あるいは堅牢性の向上、さらには、特定の部位のみに高エネルギー処理を施し、その後に単一色素で染色することで、プリントなどの複雑な過程を経ずに、色素の収着性の変化を利用した濃淡柄の染色が可能となる。 3年間にわたって、連合王国リ-ズ大学との協同で検討を行った結果、高エネルギー処理による繊維高分子への作用には、主として電磁波あるいは電離活性線による繊維高分子の表面酸化および部分非結晶化などの効果が認められた。このような基質の変化が、引き続く染色過程の色素親和性の増大あるいは減少、堅牢性や色彩の変化に寄与しているものであると推定できた。このような高エネルギー処理技術を用いると、走査紫外線レーザーなどで二次元的に模様をもたせて処理した布帛は、その後の単一な一浴染色の工程を経ることで、複雑なプリント工程と同様の濃淡模様をもった染色物を得ることが可能であることが判明した。
