Research Abstract |
Professors R.C.Johnson and J.A.Tostevin came to Japan in May. Hidenori Toyokawa, who was a former graduate student at TIT and recently received Ph.D.degree for his work on (p, d^<**>) and (p, d) reactions, is now at Research Center of Nuclear Physics (RCNP) of Osaka University. So the two foreign visitors and Ohnuma went to RCNP,and discussed together with Dr.Toyokawa the experimental as well as theoretical aspects of his thesis work. Afterwards we came to Tokyo to discuss (d, ^2He) data and their analysis together with Dr.Takashi Niizeki. Ohnuma and Niizeki attended The Groningen Conference on Giant Resonances, which was held from June 28 to July 1, and reported our (d, ^2He) work. Ohnuma visited University of Surrey after the conference, stayd in UK for two weeks, and had further discussions with Johnson, Tostevin, and their associates and graduate students. The Japanese group used the CDCC method to analyze (p, d^<**>) data, while Surrey group used the adiabatic approximation theory to analyze the same data. Based on these discussions, Toyokawa and Ohnuma, together with other collaborators, have published a paper entitled "Coupling effects studied in the ^<13>C (p, pn) ^<12>C and ^<13>C (p, d) ^<12>C reactions at Ep=35 MeV" in Physical Review. Tostevin and his student wrote a paper "Adiabatic treatment of final states in (p, d^<**>) reactions", which has been submitted to Physical Review. The oral presentation of the (d, ^2He) results on sd-shell nuclei was made also at the International Nuclear Physics Conference. The Gamow-Teller strength distributions in midsd-shell nuclei were mainly discussed in this talk. The Surrey group is now trying to analyze these data using the Glauber theory.
