| Research Abstract |
環北極雪氷圏として極域カナダ、極域ロシア、ノルウェー極域、東部シベリア、グリーンランドを研究地域に設定した。極域ロシア、ノルウェー極域、東部シベリア、グリーンランドには調査観測隊員を派遣した。各地域で各種環境試料の採取を実施し、北極域での環境変化の現況を調査した。ノルウェー極域では雪氷圏と海洋圏を取り扱い、各種環境指標物質の現在の輸送状況の解明に焦点を当てた。同時に同地域の雪氷コアの解析を実施した。極域カナダについてはカナダ地質調査所との共同研究のもと同地域の雪氷コアを国内に輸送し主に雪氷物理解析の準備を行った。ここでは過去の環境試料として現間氷期の雪氷コア試料のみならず氷期の氷まで取り扱うことが出来た。極域ロシアでは過去の雪氷試料の採取・解析によって過去の物質輸送経路の解明を行った。東部シベリアでは極域環境を支配するシベリア高気圧の発達に伴う雪氷現象を、広域雪氷観測によって捉えることに努めた。グリーンランドでは国際共同研究(North Grip)の一翼をデンマーク・コペンハーゲン大学、ドイツ・アルフレッドウェゲナー研究所とともに担い雪氷深層掘削に参加した。今後のコア解析に備えるとともに、日本の南極氷床深層掘削と連係し両極域を対象としたグローバルな地球環境の研究を展開していく。
上に述べたように環北極雪氷圏気候・環境変動研究として幅広い調査・観測を実施したが、今後取得される雪氷コア解析データを議論する過程で環北極雪氷圏の気候・環境変動研究として集約させていきたい。また雪氷圏における物質フラックスの解明に努力し雪氷試料中の環境指標シグナルを明らかにする。
