Research Abstract

人工衛星に搭載したマイクロ波海面高度計は,海面の高さを数センチの精度でグローバルに観測できる測器であり,そのデータは海洋と固体地球の力学に関する研究において極めて有効であると考えられている.本研究では,海洋物理学研究者と固体地球物理学研究者が互いに緊密な連携を取りながら協力研究を行うことを目指した.
昨年度10月には英国で,今年度10月には仏国で開かれた衛星海面高度計トペックス・ポセイドンの科学検討チームの会合に,研究代表者と研究分担者延べ9名を派遣し,海面高度計に関連した本研究グループの研究成果を披露するとともに,国際的な最新の研究情報を得た.昨年度,今年度とも11月に東京においてグループ全体の研究集会を開催し,衛星海面高度計のデータの処理や解析法に関する情報交換を行った.この集会に合わせて,昨年度は豪州の,今年度は米国と仏国の研究分担者計4名を招請し国際的な共同研究の促進を図った.その成果を集会の報告書としてまとめた.また,両年度とも2月と3月には米国の研究分担者計3名を招請し,各地で打合わせ会を開催して情報交換を行った.
これらの活動を通じて以下の成果が得られた.(1)海面高度計データを,現場の海洋観測データと組み合わせることによって,日本南岸における黒潮の流量の長期にわたる連続記録が得られた.(2)同様に現場観測データを併用することによって,北太平洋全域にわたる表層循環とその変動の様子が明らかになった.(3)海面高度計データを海洋の数値モデルに同化する技術を向上させた.(4)海面高度計データから全球的な海洋潮汐の精密なモデルが得られた.(5)従来は機密扱いであったGEOSATの測地ミッション期間中のデータの解放にともない,全球的な高分解能の重力異常分布が得られた.(6)重力異常の現場観測データなどを併用することによって,特に日本近海に関しての高精度のジオイド分布が得られた.
