Research Abstract

南極と北極での総合的地上観測やSuperDARNレーダー観測を用いて、両極域における電磁環境の比較とその変動を明らかにする事を目的にしている。本年度の国際学術による観測・研究実績の概要は以下のとおりである。
1. アイスランドにおけるオーロラ現象の南北共役点観測
南極の昭和基地との可視オーロラの同時観測が可能な8-9月と2-3月の秋・春分時期に、アイスランドにおいてオーロラ同時観測を実施した。また、イメージング・リオメータを8月にアイスランドに設置し、天候に左右されることなく高エネルギーオーロラ降下粒子の共役性の観測が通年実施できる観測体制が整った。
2. HFレーダー観測
昭和基地のHFレーダーは国際HFレーダー網観測(SuperDARN)の一環として活動している。本年度の1〜3月には、このSuperDARNレーダーを中心とし、EISCATレーダー、Geotail衛星との同時観測を企画し、磁気圏プラズマの時間的・空間的変動について貴重な観測情報を得る事ができた。特に、10〜20秒の短周期地磁気変動(Pc3)注目しての特別観測を企画・実施した。また、南極の中国中山基地とスバールバルとのカスプ域可視オーロラ共役点観測に呼応してのSuperDARN特別観測も3月に実施した。
3. スカンジナビアでのオーロラとEISCATレーダー観測
キルナにてオーロラの立体観測を、FASTやGeotail衛星の軌道やEISCATレーダー視野に合わせて実施した。また、トロムソとロングイヤビエンにおいて、EISCATレーダーの特別観測を国際共同で実施した。
