Research Abstract	平成10年度は神岡実験室の改造、5,400m^3水チェレンコフ宇宙線検出装置の建設、合計1,000本の17インチ光電子増倍管大量製造、高性能液体シンチレータの開発、製造方法の確立、データ収集電子回路の設計・試作・性能評価、データ収集計算機、データ転送装置、実験監視装置等の検討を行った。本年度は研究の2年目にあたり、研究全体の歯車がかみ合って、1,000トン液体シンチレータ反ニュートリノ観測装置の完成に向けて、研究が走り出した。又、米国スタンフォード大学、カリフォルニア大学バークレイ校、カリフォルニア工科大学、デューク大学、テネシー大学等の研究者との共同研究が決定し、より高性能実験装置を用いた研究が実現される予定である。 1. 神岡実験室の改造平成10年度は、東京大学宇宙線研究所及び高エネルギー加速器研究機構から旧カミオカンデ実験装置が移管され、また旧カミオカンデ実験室の使用契約を神岡鉱山と結び、神岡実験室の改造、実験検出器の建設が始まった。 (1) 坑道拡幅神岡実験室の手前の坑道190mを幅2.2mから4.5m、高さ2.5mから3.8mの坑道に拡幅する工事を行った。これによって、2km先の抗口から実験室までトラックで物資を運搬することが可能になり、建設経費の節約、建設工期の短縮が図られること、また空気の換気が良くなり、実験室内の居住性が改善されることになった。 (2) 電源及び照明施設古くなったカミオカンデ電源供給設備を撤去して、新たに鉱山給電施設から約170m、高圧(3.3kv)電力ケーブルを付設した。又実験室には、200KVAキュービクルを設置して、計測用、動力用の100V、200Vの電源供給ができるようになった。実験室内に蛍光灯50台、非常灯10台、水銀灯2台を設置した。 2. 検出器の開発・建設状況 (1) 5,400m^3水チェレンコフ宇宙線検出装置の建設直径20m、高さ20mの円筒形実験室空洞の岩盤に防水処理をほどこした、5,400m^3水チェレンコフ宇宙線検出装置が完成した。この装置は、3槽構造の全観測装置の最外部にあたる検出器である。 (2) 3,000m^3ステンレス球形タンクモンテカルロ法による検出器の性能評価の結果、太陽ニュートリノの検出を行うためには当初予定していた、2,500m^3タンクでは環境放射能からの雑音現象の混在が十分除去できないことがわかり、 … More 3,000m^3に設計変更を行った。この設計変更によって、太陽ニュートリノ検出能力が向上した。 (3) 1,200m^3プラスチック・バルーン有機溶剤である液体シンチレータにおかされないようなプラスチック素材の検討を行い、ナイロン+ポリビニールアルコール+ナイロンの多層膜バルーンを開発した。さらに60cmのテスト・サンプルを試作して、強度試験、支持構造試験を通して、最終設計の基礎データを取得した。 (4) 液体シンチレータ・水純化装置昨年製作した2m^3テスト・ベンチを用いて液体シンチレータ純化試験を行い最終設計を終了した。 (5) 光電子増倍管支持構造 3,000m^3ステンレス球形タンクの内壁に取り付けられる1280本17インチ光電子増倍管をタンクに支持する構造の最終設計が終了した。 3. 実験装備の開発、製作状況 (1) 17インチ光電子増倍管昨年度500本、今年度500本の計1,000本の製作が完了した。1,000本の性能検査の結果、時間分解能、エネルギー分解能等で予想通りの性能であることが確認された。これにより、高精度実験実現の見通しがついた。 (2) 液体シンチレータイソパラフィン(80%)+スードクメイ(20%)+PPO(2g/l)を調合した液体シンチレータの開発に成功した。これによって、発光量、光透過率、波形識別による粒子弁別等実験条件を十分満足する性能が得られた。特にアルファー粒子の識別能力は、競争相手の300トン液体シンチレータ実験(ボレクシーノ)グループよりも良い結果を出している。現在は実際の使用のために、1,000トンの薬品調達方法、運搬方法、調合方法の検討を行っている。 (3) データ収集電子回路シンチレーション光の波形を記録する高速データ波形認識電子回路を設計し、試作品の性能試験によって最終設計のためのデータを取得した。光電子増倍管用高電圧電源、高電圧分配器を開発して、性能評価によって最終設計を終了した。 (4) データ収集電子計算機昨年設置した2m^3液体シンチレータテスト・ベンチを用いて、データ収集電子計算機システムを構築して、性能評価を行った。これによって、データ収集電子計算機システムの雛形ができあがった。 (5) 極低放射能検出技術の開発液体シンチレータ内、タンク用ステンレスや溶接棒内、プラスチック・バルーン素材内等、実験で使用するあらゆる材質の中に含まれている微量ウラン、トリウム、カリウム量を測定して、実験条件を満たす素材の選別を行った。また、微量放射性不純物の濃縮技術の開発を行い高感度検出方法の検討を行っている。 4. データ解析手法の整備、理論研究の状況 (1) データ解析手法の整備上記で開発した実験装置を用いた場合に、各実験目的に対する物理成果の予測を行うモンテカルロシミュレーション法の開発を行った。これによって、信号と雑音の評価が可能になり、より良い成果を挙げるために必要な実験装置への要求が明確になった。今後はこの結果を取り入れてさらに実験装置の開発を行う予定である。 (2) 理論研究原子炉反ニュートリノ反応の理論的考察、太陽ニュートリノ欠損問題の理論的考察、超対称性模型による素粒子大統一理論の展開、宇宙由来素粒子の生成機構の考察を行った。 Less
