| Research Abstract |
天然放射線の蓄積量は、白色鉱物や陶磁器片と放射線の相互作用の結果としての、ごくわずかな放射線損傷を、半導体レーザ光の照射や加熱により、光励起ルミネッセンス(OSLと略記)や熱ルミネッセンス(以下TLと略記)現象として観察できる。12年度はJCO臨界事故の際に、施設内で集めたセラミックス片の内、アルミナるつぼを使い、700nm付近の赤色TLを測定することにより、事故時の線量評価をより正確に行った。更に、陶磁器片など焼成熱遺物・遺跡の場合、焼成後の絶対年代や熱履歴に関する情報をルミネッセンス現象を用いて探れる。そこで、幾つかの窯跡や土器・須恵器・土師器・瓦・陶磁器片類や火山灰層を試料とし、抽出した石英粒子や円盤状薄片を測定試料とし、ルミネッセンス現象の物理化学的基礎実験に基づき、熱履歴の温度条件の推定およびTL・OSL年代測定法の信頼性向上を目指すと共に、新たな歴史情報としての利用を確立できた。石英からのルミネッセンス関連の基礎実験には、顕微赤外分光法を用いて、石英薄片からOH基濃度分布のマッピングをとり、BlueTLやカラーセンター分布との相関性を調べ興味深い結果を得た。
これらルミネッセンス測定をより簡便に定量化のために、自動ルミネッセンス(TL/OSL)測定装置を完成させ、ルーチンなルミネッセンス年代測定器としても使用可能とした。この高感度TL/OSL装置を利用し、奈良の真薬師寺から頂いた年代既知の屋根瓦をRTLやOSL年代測定を行い、お互いの一致のみならず評価年代が既知年代とも調和的であるとの実験結果を得ることが出来た。結果の一部は、この方面では権威のある欧米の学会誌に発表し、専門家からも好評を得た。
