Research Abstract |
1) We found that when mitochondria of bovine heart was degraded by oxidants, some kinds of hydroxy, keto, and epoxy compounds of linoleic acid was formed. 2) We found C-17 cyclopropane fatty acid in the sn-2 position of phspholipids which constitute mitochondrial membrane, and it also existed in cell membranes and microsomes of human heart, liver and rat liver. 3) Free C-17 cyclopropane fatty acid was found in the sera of cadavers, whereas it was not found in those of healthy living persons. 4) No relationships between the times after death and cyclopropane fatty acid concentrations in human sera was found. 5) We found that C-17 cyclopropane fatty acid inhibited the contraction of cardiac papillary muscles.
