Research Abstract	本研究領域はヒト集団におけるがんの環境・宿主要因の解明を目指しており、各研究分野間の連携と協力を強化するため、以下のような5分野の研究体制を整えた。すなわち、コホート研究と症例・対照研究を中心に病因論を展開し、民族疫学的研究と分子疫学的研究を両翼に位置づけて諸外国や基礎研究分野との連携を図り、さらに臨床疫学的研究が背後でそれらを支え、全体として幅広い研究領域構造を設定し、効率的に疫学研究をすすめていく。このような幅広い疫学研究を日本のみならずアジア・太平洋地域で進展させるため、総括班では平成12年度の計画研究として19課題を選び、総括班班員と計画研究の代表候補者が一堂に集い、各研究課題が目指している目標や研究執行のための諸問題などについて具体的に検討してきた。それらの討議内容をふまえて疫学研究の標準的方法や相互の研究の位置関係について確認し、それぞれの研究課題の具体的な到達目標、あるいは期待され得る研究成果を設定した。また、それらの研究を背後から支える母体組織の役割が重要と考え、総括班の中に二つの運用委員会、「大規模コホート研究運営委員会」、「分子疫学生体材料利用委員会」を設定し、両委員会を十分に機能させながら全体の研究活動を推進していくことにした。特に、大規模コホート研究は多施設の共同により実施していくので、研究継続にあたって常に施設間の標準化を運営委員会の中で検討していく。また、分子疫学研究に欠かせない多くの生体材料は国内・外から幅広く収集されるので、その利用と今後の収集方法について、倫理的問題や他の研究領域との共同利用なども含めて討議する。今年度からがんの疫学研究領域が設立されたことにより、多施設の疫学研究者らが種々の共同研究を企画することが可能になったので、今後はその利点を最大限に活かし、ヒトがんの要因解明のための大規模共同研究を日本で新たに展開していきたい。
