Research Abstract

本研究課題は、南北両極域の広範囲を高時間分解能で観測している国際SuperDARNレーダー網の特徴・利点を最大限に生かし、両半球の極域電磁圏で生起している電磁現象のマクロ的・ミグロ的特性を明確にし、太陽風と地球磁気圏との相互作用の物理的プロセスを総合的に解き明かすことを最終目的としている。
今年度に得られた具体的な研究成果として、1)昼側カスプ域でのHFレーダーとオーロラとの同時観測により、太陽風-磁気圏リコネクションに伴う渦巻き状オーロラ現象と渦状対流との関係を明らかにした。2)惑星間空間磁場が南向きに変動した時の電離圏応答について、SuperDARN、地磁気および粒子降り込みのデータを用いて研究し、応答は二種類の物理的に異なるメカニズムにより引き起こされることを発見した。3)SuperDARNとGEOTAIL衛星の特別共同観測期間のデータを用い、衛星観測による磁場及び電場データ、地上観測による磁場データと比較して、磁気圏外のMHD波動がカスプ領域の電離層高度まで侵入するプロセスを明らかにした。また、EISCATヒータとの同時観測も実施し、圧縮性Pc5脈動の発生・伝搬特性を明らかにした。4)SuperDARNによって観測される電子密度不規則構造がサブオーロラ帯の夕方側日照日陰境界線付近において増大していることを明らかにした。5)北極域の2基のSuperDARNレーダー(フィンランド・アイスランド)とEISCATスバノレバールレーダーで同時に得られたデータを解析し、カスズ域で発生した電磁圏電子密度急減は、強い電場による摩擦加熱で発生することを見いだした。6)昭和基地SuperDARNレーダーで取得された近距離エコーを詳細に調べ、エコーの原因として、80-100km高度の流星や強い擾乱時のE/D層プラズマ波動以外に、極域夏季中間圏エコーに(PMSE)と呼ばれる特異なエコーが存在することを発見した。7)昭和基地HFレーダーの生記録データから流星エコーを自動的に導出する解析手法を新たに開発した。
