Research Abstract |
A new enteral nutritional formula containing whey protein hydrolysate (WPH) was evaluated its suppressive effect on indomethacin-induced ulcers. The first experiment resulted less intestinal ulcers appearance (1/7) in Sprague-Dawley male rats which received subcutaneous indomethacin administration or WPH formula feeding period than in those fed the formulas containing amino acids(4/6) and intact protein (6/7) as nitrogen source. In the second experiment, rats were cross-fed on different formulas, less intestinal ulcers appeared in rats pre-fed WPH formula. (1/7 in pre WPH- post WPH, 1/8 in WPH-AA, 6/7 in AA-WPH, 5/7 in AA-AA). Similar results were also shown in cecum ulcers. These results suggest that the WPH formula would have some property suppressing indomethacin-induced ulcers.
