Research Abstract |
This study has initiated by collaboration with the researchers in the related fields in the department of chemistry and materials science of Polytechnic University, N Y, USA, in order to elucidate the dynamic aspects of self-organizing and self-structuring polymeric materials, in which multi-phase and hierarchic structures are the characteristics. The total plan has been grouped in to the following five categories : 1. Slow dynamics of structural formation in polymer-blend organizing materials. 2. Development of new block copolymers and their organization and functionalization. 3.Analysis of organizing superstructures by use of dynamic light scattering method. 4. Structurization of synthetic-biological complex systems and reaction analysis. 5. Development of new photo-functional organizing materials. 6. Molecular design of self-organizing materials. The attained results from each category were : 1. Optical observation of organizing process during the phase-separation of thermoresponsive phase-separating polymericmaterials. 2. Development of A-B-A type block copolymer having amphiphilic properties by using terechelic reactive oligomers. 3. Structural analysis of block- and blend-based organizing materials. 4. Unified understanding for structural formations in proteins and synthetic polymers. 5.Development of new self-organizing polymeric materials in which structural formation is induced by light stimulation. 6. Design and development of novel biodegradable polyester-based self-organizing materials. These works have been carried out with a tight exchange of research information and discussion between two Institutes and Joint-symposium was organized every year to present the details of newly attained results and to exchange productive discussion upon every result.
