Research Abstract	世界でも有数の畜産地帯であるオーストラリア・クイーンズランド州の中心大学であるクイーンズランド大学とわが国の主要な畜産地帯である東北海道に位置する帯広畜産大学の多方面の専門分野が協力して家畜由来メタンの制御・利用技術を開発して体系化することを目的として日豪政府間プロジェクト(95AGF05)を締結した。文部省科研費による支援を受け、1999年からクイーンズランド大学との間で「畜産に関わる温室効果ガスの制御と利用」共同プロジェクトを開始した。研究期間は1999年度から2001年度の3カ年である。本科研費では1999年にオーストラリア・クイーンズランド大学において日豪の研究者によるワークショップを開催し、家畜由来メタンの制御・利用技術の体系化について討議した。すなわち、安全な天然資材による家畜のルーメン内メタン発酵の栄養学的制御技術に関する共同研究を基軸にして、さらに家畜糞尿のメタン発酵に対しても環境工学・生化学的制御技術の導入について両大学の研究者で検討した。ワークショップでは糞尿処理の適正化技術及びその資源化についてバイオガスプラント技術についても活発に討議し、それらの議事録を製本し、出版した。また2000年にはメタンエネルギーの高度化変換バイオシステムの構築を目指して、専門分野を拡大し、「畜産に関わる温室効果ガス-メタン-の制御と利用」国際セミナーをクイーンズランド大学で開催した。これらの共同研究の成果を纏め、出版した。さらに科研費最終年度の2001年には参加国を拡大し、帯広において11月7日〜11日に国際会議「畜産における温室効果ガスの制御と利用」を開催し、これらの共同プロジェクトの成果を公開した。本国際会議にはこれらの分野について21カ国以上から220名の参加者を得、100題の講演論文が投稿され、本会議の開催主旨について世界的に高い関心を集めた。
