Research Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify the relationship between periodontitis and systemic disease such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, et al. in Japanese. We collaborated with 13 university in Japan and progressed this research. As results, we got some new views as follows.
1. Periodontitis is associated with diabetes in Japanese subjects.
2. Periodontitis is also associated with atherosclerosis and other systemic disease in Japanese.
3. Periodontal treatment improve the diabetic condition to healthy one.
4. Examination of the effects of surgery or non-surgery periodontal therapy in diabetic patients.
5. Examination of relationship between paeriodontits and high blood pressure.
6. Periodontal bacteria affect cardiovascular disease.
We got many new views on periodontal medicine in Japanese. Periodontitis is tightly associated with systemic disease such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, low weight birth, and others. It was clear that periodontal treatment improve systemic condition. After treatment of periodontitis, diabetic index was improved.
In the future, we have to continue this research to identify the relationship between periodontitis and sysytemic disease. And we have to develop new therapy of periodontitis on the basis of EBM(evidence based medicine).
