Outline of Annual Research Achievements

平成30年10月から平成31年3月末まで5ヶ月間実施された第358次航海を分担者および連携研究者が首席として主導した。他の実績概要は以下である。
地震探査・解析：プレート境界断層面を3次元地震探査データから抽出、その幾何学的形状が切迫度にどのような影響を及ぼすのかを解析した。またライザー掘削地点付近のデータ再処理の結果、分岐断層付近やプレート境界断層周辺に認められた弱反射面が流体移動に伴って形成された微小変形構造であることが示唆された。
孔内観測・解析・システム開発：海底観測網に接続される掘削孔内観測装置の設計・開発・設置をした。取得され始めた連続データの解析を進めた。初期観測データの品質評価の結果、地震計が非常に低いノイズレベルで動作していることを確認した。これまでの南海掘削によって回収されている孔内検層データと地震反射データなど物理探査データをまとめた。ライザー掘削データの船上解析を進め、地震発生断層上盤と断層帯の物性と状態（応力場、間隙水圧比など）などの速報値を得た。また、「ちきゅう」による深部掘削に際し、掘削サイト周辺でエアガン発振と海底地震観測を実施した。
試料測定・実験：これまでの南海掘削によって回収されている試料について物性・摩擦特性・水理学的特性について検討を進めた。また、試料の地質学的化学的測定についても連携研究者と共に進めた。前年度までに行ったIODP掘削地点C0002の泥質堆積物試料の三軸摩擦実験を実施した。深度増加に伴う定常摩擦強度の低下傾向、および定常摩擦強度の変位速度依存性の減少傾向が認められた。これらが深度増加（温度上昇）に伴う試料中の間隙水圧上昇に起因する可能性が判明した。これまでに採取された試料中のジルコンU-Pb年代分析を進め、上盤付加体の年代を明らかにした。それらを基に南海地震発生帯の地質学的成立過程を検討した。

Reason

平成30年度末に遅れていたライザーシステムを用いた超深度掘削が実施された。掘削期間が5ヶ月に及び、年度末日にまで及んだので、それによって取得されたデータ分析、試料分析が採集年度ずれ込み遅れを生じた。船上解析、船上分析を同時並行的に進めたが、掘削地点がプレート境界断層という地質的複雑さと脆弱性を持ち、それに対する掘削技術の困難性に遭遇し、目標深度の70%で中止せざるを得ない状況となった。今回の事態については、掘削実施責任主体であった海洋研究開発機構及び国際深海掘削計画（IODP）においても掘削技術に関する国際的な評価活動がされる予定である。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

研究総括・地震探査解析：これまでの掘削データから求めた応力場と、3D構造データから求めた震源断層の形状から前縁近傍のプレート境界断層面上の切迫度を推定する。特に断層形状の要素とそれ以外の要素（間隙水圧異常など）が場所によってそのような違いをもたらしているかを検討する。南海トラフ巨大地震震源断層の状態（応力・圧力・温度等）を掘削により直接測定することはできなかったが、そこでの地震発生の切迫度評価に必要な要素を整理する。

試料測定・実験：ライザー掘削で得られた上盤プレート付加体泥質堆積物試料の摩擦強度測定を進める。また、同試料の定常摩擦強度の変位速度依存性と深度増加の関係を検討する。主として泥質堆積物から成る南海トラフ付加体中では、温度100℃に達する海底下3000 m条件付近で含水粘土鉱物の脱水により間隙水圧が上昇し、断層の強度が低下することが予想されるがそれを検証する。また、この点は、そこで地震性断層運動が起こり得るかどうかの検討の鍵である。また、断層帯試料の微焦点鉱物組成分析手によって、断層微細メカニズムも明らかにする。

孔内観測：孔内間隙水圧によって、観測網近傍のゆっくり滑りの発生状況について検討する。ゆっくり滑り現象は、平成30年中は認められなかったが平成31年3月の小規模発生を観測した。平成30年度に実施したエアガン発振中の孔内記録の地震波速度を評価する。長期孔内観測アレイのほかに南海トラフ海底に設置した傾斜計、光ファイバー歪計との観測記録の比較し、長期観測体制を確立する。
