Outline of Annual Research Achievements

単層カーボンナノチューブ(SWNT)の合成においては,直径の細いSWNTの合成技術を開発した.直径が細いことで,取り得るカイラリティの種類が限定されることから,カイラリティ制御においても重要な技術といえる.通常の合成法ではほとんど得られない直径0.62nmの細いSWNTをより多く合成することに成功した.また,半導体および金属SWNTの分離技術として,水蒸気中での金属SWNTエッチング技術をさらに発展させ,配向成長したSWNTの中から金属SWNTを完全に除去することに成功した.これにより,半導体のみからなるSWNTアレイの作製が可能になり,SWNTの電子デバイス応用に非常に高い貢献ができると考える.
さらに,SWNTに特徴的な物性の1つである,熱伝導率の計測を行った.網目状に絡まりあった構造を持つSWNT薄膜の両端に温度差をつけ,直接的に熱伝導率を計測した.薄膜内におけるSWNTネットワーク構造によってその熱伝導率が変化することを明らかにした.
エネルギーデバイス応用においては,化学修飾することで物性を制御したSWNT薄膜を電極として用いた,SWNT‐シリコンヘテロ接合型太陽電池を作製,その化学修飾による反射率低減,電気伝導率の向上を実現し,太陽電池としての高効率化に成功した.インジウム等希少金属をSWNTにおきかえた太陽電池応用も実現した.またペロブスカイト型太陽電池に対しては,C60やPCBM,リチウムイオンを内包したフラーレン等のフラーレン類およびSWNTの応用を進めた.その結果,太陽電池寿命を大幅に長くすることに成功した.

Reason

SWNTの構造制御技術やドーピング等による物性制御技術,フラーレンの誘導体作製技術の発展と同時に,それらの特徴を生かした太陽電池応用に成功している.ナノカーボン材料の作製,物性制御技術が当初の予定より大幅に進んで研究が遂行していることが,非常に大きなアドバンテージとなっており,その分太陽電池への応用展開が計画以上に進展しているといえる.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

SWNTの構造制御技術においては,よりSWNTの成長機構を明らかにし,その知見を基礎として新たな構造制御技術の開発を進める.特に,同位体炭素(13C)をラベルとして用いた成長観察を行い,個々のSWNT成長の詳細な分析を実現させる.同時に,透過型電子顕微鏡による触媒金属の直接的な観察も行っていく.カーボン材料だけでなく,六窒化ホウ素,遷移金属ダイカルコゲナイトとの組み合わせやヘテロ構造なども検討していく.
エネルギーデバイス応用においては,構造制御や物性制御を行ったナノカーボン材料(SWNTやグラフェン,フラーレン)に対し,その物性を十分理解した上で,適切に太陽電池構造へ応用することで,さらなる高効率化,長寿命化を目指していく.
