| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research project entailed an investigation into materials on the “proletarian cultural movement” of the 1920s through the 1930s. We visited four archives within Japan and photographed some 4,000 items with a digital camera. Of these, we selected 2,857 items and published them as a searchable DVD, Showa Senzenki Proletaria Bunka Undo Shiryoshu (Documents of the Proletarian Cultural Movement of the Prewar Showa Era.) (Maruzen Yushodo, 2017). These valuable materials, issued in 28 different prefectures, clarify the actual nature of the cultural movement as carried out by laborers, and are notable for the inclusion of some 1,000 mimeographed items.
