Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、X線・可視光・電波を用いた多波長観測により、銀河団の質量成長の解明を目的とするものである。本研究全体を通して、主著者論文2本を含む21本の論文を出版し、また主著者論文が1本投稿中の段階である。本研究を基礎に、幅広い領域で成果に結びついたと言える。国際学会の場で2度の口頭発表講演を行い、研究成果の宣伝も十分にこなしたと言える。

銀河団に付随する高温プラズマガス（以下、銀河団ガス）のX線表面輝度分布は、軸対称であるものが多い。そのような銀河団は質量成長を終え、力学的に十分緩和した銀河団であると考えられてきた。一方、不規則なX線表面輝度分布をもつものは衝突中であることが多く、多波長観測によって裏付けがなされている。しかし近年、十分緩和したと考えられる銀河団であっても衝突中の痕跡を示すものがあり、また、中心銀河の超巨大質量ブラックホールが極めて明るいなど、従来の描像では説明が難しい銀河団の報告が相次いだ。本研究はその謎に焦点を当てた。

本研究において、力学的に緩和した銀河団の典型と考えられてきた銀河団から衝突の痕跡を示す大スケールの運動を発見し、銀河団ガスの大局的なX線表面輝度分布の情報だけでは衝突銀河団を見落とす可能性を指摘した。また、非常に近傍に位置し、中心銀河の超巨大質量ブラックホールが非常に明るく、衝突の痕跡を示す銀河団として有名なペルセウス座銀河団のX線天文衛星「ひとみ」の観測データを詳細解析し、銀河団ガスの速度場の空間分布を初測定した。電波望遠鏡ALMAを用いて衝突中の銀河団の圧力分布を精密測定し、衝突によって誘発される運動の速度が音速未満であることを観測的に示した。また、ハッブル望遠鏡による重力レンズ効果の観測から暗黒物質の分布を測定し、銀河団ガスの分布や熱的性質から衝突により変化した銀河団ガスの特性や幾何学を解明した。
