Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of the study was to examine work-life balance and mental health among mothers of children with developmental disabilities (DD). The results showed employment rate of mothers of children with DD were lower than those of children without DD. Moreover, mothers of children with DD were more likely to be depressed than those of children without DD. Several mothers were reluctant to seek help for their children's developmental problems. Mothers with strong anxiety for help-seeking and few help-seeking behaviors were likely to report lower mental health.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
療育機関を利用する母親の就労率が同年代の女性と比較して低かったこと、さらに未就労の母親の就労満足度や精神的健康が低かったことが明らかになったことから、母親の精神的健康を保つためにも、発達障害児の母親が就労を希望する場合、就労支援を行う必要性が示唆された。また、悩みを抱えながらも援助要請しない・できない母親が一定数存在すること、さらに専門家に相談援助を求める際、母親は専門家に被援助不安を抱えている可能性が示唆されたことは、専門家が母親の相談対応を行う際の一助になると考える。
