Development of X-ray polarimetry with bent Si crystals and CFRP substrate

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

偏光は、電磁波の放射の空間分布、波長分布、時間変動とならんで天体の物理状態を探るための重要な情報源である。偏光X線は、高エネルギー現象に関わる極限天体周辺の構造や放射メカニズムを決定する鍵になることが期待され、特に、ブラックホールの時空構造や存在証明が直接観測できると考えられる。ところが実際には、1970年代にカニ星雲から有意なX線偏光が検出されて、30年観測的成果がない。そこで、私はX線天文学の新たな局面を切り開くために、回転放物面基盤にCFRPを用い、DLC蒸着によって曲げられたシリコンを貼ることで、鉄輝線付近に特化する偏光感度の極めて高い、集光する大面積のブラッグ反射型X線偏光計を開発する。

１年目として、CFRPを用いて精密な回転放物面の基盤を作成した。また、試作として、シリコンを貼り合わせて一体成型する方法も確立できた。これら結果やアイデアについて、特許に出願した。さらに、２年目として、シリコンを台形状に切断し、すべてのシリコン結晶の向きが中心に向くように、できるだけ隙間なく配置することで、大面積の回転放物鏡を製作した。回転放物面鏡の形状から像の広がりを推定すると角度分解能が0.7度と求まった。また、実際に可視光集光評価を行うことで角度分解能が0.6度と求まった。シミュレーションを行った結果、製作した偏光計がブラックホールから出る鉄輝線の広がりを調べるために最適な光学系であることがわかった。これらの結果について、国内学会、国際学会で発表を行った。
