Research Abstract

地震波トモグラフィーにより、海溝から沈み込んだ海洋プレート(スラブ)がマントル遷移層(深さ410-660km)で滞留する(スタグナント)現象が確認されてきた。しかし、それらは海域が多く、既存の地震観測網でこれ以上詳細な結果を得るのは困難であった。本研究では、スタグナントスラブの直上において海底での3 年間の地震アレイ観測を実施し、スラブの実態を詳細に解明するための地震データを得て解析を行った。また、既存の地震データから、海洋プレートによりマントル内へ水が輸送されていることなどを解明した。
