Outline of Annual Research Achievements

(1) 地上観測：光吸収性不純物や積雪の融解がアルベドに与える影響の長期変動を復元するため、2015-2017年にグリーンランド氷床で採取したアイスコアを分析し、融解履歴の復元や不純物の顕微鏡観察、不純物濃度の分析を行った。光吸収性エアロゾルが雪氷中に取り込まれたのちの物理化学成分の変化を、昇華実験と電子顕微鏡分析を組みあわせた実験手法で解析した結果、雪氷中ではBCなどに大きな変質はみられなかった。過去の裸氷域における雪氷微生物観測データを用いて暗色化に最も影響が強い緑藻の時間変化のモデル化を行った結果、積雪域と同様に比較的単純な数理モデルを適用可能であることがわかった。
(2) 衛星観測：2017年12月に打上げられた気候変動観測衛星GCOM-C搭載SGLIセンサの観測データを用いてグリーンランド氷床上の雪氷面温度の解析を行い、SIGMA-A、BサイトのAWSによる雪面温度観測値との比較を行った結果、二乗平均平方根誤差が2.4K以下で一致することを確認した。また、2000-2018年におけるMODISデータから表層積雪粒径の時空間変動を調べた結果、その経年変化は7-8月に10-11 um/10年の増加傾向を示したが、近年の夏季気温の変動により統計的には有意ではなかった。
(3) 数値モデリング：極域気候モデルNHM-SMAPを用いて、グリーンランド氷床上における1980年以降の詳細な表面質量収支計算を行い、数値モデルの国際相互比較実験に参加した。また、全球モデルによる近年を対象とした計算を実施し、地上・衛星観測と比較することで、グリーンランド域における積雪中BC濃度及び積雪粒径の再現性を定量的に検証した。シオラパルクやカナックにおけるおろし風による強風イベントを領域数値モデル実験によって再現した。また、両地点の強風出現特性の違いを地上観測と通年の数値実験をもとに明らかにした。

Reason

(1) 地上観測：2019年春に犬橇でSIGMA-Aサイトを訪れ、AWSのメンテナンスを実施した。 AWS観測は順調に進んでいる。また、6-7月には内陸のEGRIP基地で衛星同期観測を行い、GCOM-Cの精度検証を実施した。さらに、7-8月に南西部イサンガータセミア氷河消耗域で微生物調査を行った。微生物のモデル化のための観測データも順調に得られた。光吸収性エアロゾルの分析では当初計画していた雪氷の昇華実験に成功し、1 um以下の微小なBC粒子を透過型電子顕微鏡で測定する技術を確立し、関連する光吸収性エアロゾルの挙動や氷晶核に関する論文を多く発表した。
(2) 衛星観測：GCOM-Cによる観測は2018年より現在まで順調に実施できており、解析される積雪関連物理量は地上検証データとも整合した結果を得られている。高精度衛星観測のための人工雪・自然雪のマイクロCTサンプルデータを用いた積雪粒子とその形状情報の抽出、粒子散乱特性の計算についての一連の処理過程を確立し、現実的な積雪粒子の散乱特性計算からボロノイ形状粒子モデルの妥当性が確認された。
(3) 数値モデリング：NHM-SMAPによる1980年から現在までの長期気候計算を実施できたことや国際比較に参加したことは想定以上の成果と言える。また、全球モデルの改良を行い、北極域での観測との比較を行い、モデル計算の再現性を検証した。グリーンランド北西部において観測されたクリオコナイトホールの深さの増減について、幾何的形状によって放射環境が変化する数値モデルを構築し、観測されたクリオコナイトホールの増減を再現することができた。領域気象化学モデルNHM-Chemにおいて、BCと鉱物ダストの外部混合を取り扱う5-category型を新規開発し、従来の世界標準である3-category型との違いを評価した論文が掲載された。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

(1) 地上観測：引き続きグリーンランド氷床上においてAWSを用いた現場観測データ取得に努める。アイスコア分析では光吸収性不純物とフィルンの氷晶比表面積解析結果から放射伝達モデルを用いてアルベドの再現に取り組む。裸氷域では既存の観測データおよびサンプルの分析を進め、鉱物ダスト、栄養塩、表面地形、氷構造等と微生物繁殖の関係を明らかにしつつ、裸氷域微生物繁殖のモデル化を実現する。光吸収性不純物分析では、フィルターの分光透過率から不純物濃度を測定する手法の精度向上とともに，最適な光学パラメータの調整を行う。
(2) 衛星観測：GCOM-C観測データをMODISデータと接続し、雪氷物理量の長期間の時空間変動を調査する。また、MODISデータによる表面積雪粒径の時空間変動結果及びその要因解析結果をまとめる。X線マイクロCTデータを利用した降雪粒子のモデルと粒子散乱特性データセットの開発を継続して実施し、その成果をまとめる。
(3) 数値モデリング：NHM-SMAPによるグリーンランド氷床上表面質量収支についての長期気候計算を実施する。NHM-Chem-SMAPにより、グリーンランドにおける鉱物ダストの飛散、沈着シミュレーションを実施し、ダスト由来の積雪不純物による雪氷での放射収支の影響を評価する。北西グリーンランドにおけるローカルダストの拡散に対する局地風系の影響を、高解像度モデルを用いて評価する。新積雪粒子の形状や粒径に関するパラメータを、NHMを用いて予測できるようモデル開発を進める。全球モデルを用いて、グリーンランド氷床表面暗色化による放射強制力を推定する。クリオコナイトホールの深さ変化を表現する数値モデルについて論文化を進めると共に、NHM-SMAP再解析データを入力としてグリーンランド全域での計算を行い、クリオコナイトホールの崩壊に伴うアルベド低下について定量評価を行う。
