Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、中性子過剰核の表面に存在すると予言されている中性子対の強い空間的相関「ダイニュートロン」と、その放出による核崩壊過程「ダイニュートロン崩壊」の探索を目指したものである。ダイニュートロンの存在はこれまで実験的に確立しておらず、観測されれば中性子過剰核の特徴的性質となる。本研究では、ダイニュートロンの候補である非束縛中性子過剰核26Oを、不安定核ビーム27Fの一陽子分離反応によって生成し、その二中性子崩壊過程を精度よく測定する実験を行うことを目指していた。まずは、空間的相関に敏感な角度相関の測定を行い、その後、二中性子のスピン相関の測定を行うことを目指した。この目的のため、中性子偏極度計の役割も担う高精細中性子検出器HIMEの建設を進めてきた。
一方、国際情勢の変化により、不安定核ビーム27Fの生成に必要な希少同位体48Caが手に入らなくなり、実験遂行が本研究期間内に間に合わなくなった。そのため、本研究では、1)HIMEの建設完了を最優先に行い、また、それと並行して、2)ダイニュートロン相関を見るもう一つの有力手法、中性子ハロー核のクーロン分解反応の実験研究を進めた。
1)HIMEについては計画の残り半分の建設を行い、完成させた。また、信号処理に集積回路を導入し、テスト実験の結果、ダイニュートロン相関観測に必要な仕様を満たしていることを確認した。
2)中性子ハロー核のクーロン分解反応実験:2中性子数ハロー核19Bのクーロン分解反応実験の解析を進め、6Heについては新たに分解実験を遂行するとともに、以前のデータの再解析も行った。19Bについては世界初の電気双極子励起スペクトルを得ることに成功し、ダイニュートロンの証拠を得た。6Heに関しても電気双極子励起のスペクトルを得、ダイニュートロンを示す結果を得た。以上より中性子ハロー核での普遍的なダイニュートロン構造が示された。
