Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
I spent a great part of the year synthesizing the ethnographic and archival data that was collected form fieldwork in Dili in August 2016. I also spent this year building up and collecting relevant scholarly works on Timor. I also established scholarly collaboration with East Timor scholars in Japan and worldwide. In Japan I participated in a workshop on Nationalism in East Timor in Osaka University in November 2017, where I exchange research data with scholars Japan and overseas. I have also been able to engage with younger international scholars on the topic of East Timor religion and nationalism. I have been able to engage with Dr. Andrey Damaledo, from the Australian National University, who has come to CSEAS as a JSPS Postdoctoral Scholar. I have also acted as an examiner for the PhD thesis of Mr. Kisho Tsuchiya, at the National University of Singapore.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I have received favorable feedback on my proposed research article from colleagues at the International Christian University (Japan) and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (Singapore). I have also been able to pursue encourage research collaboration prospects with colleagues from those institutions for further publication outcomes in the 2018-2019 time period.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
For the coming fiscal year, I have two main objectives: Firstly, I plan to use research funding to organize a workshop on Religion and Mobility in Timor, in collaboration with scholars in Japan and Internationally. I will use this workshop as the basis for the production of an edited volume or special issue on the topic of Religion in East Timor (Southeast Asia). Secondly, I plan to prepare and and submit an academic article to an internationally peer-reviewed journal. This article will be based on the fieldwork data collected over the research term. In addition to this, I plan to further establish my scholarly collaborations by participating in conferences and workshops in Busan University of Foreign Studies (May, 2018), and Humbolt University (July 2018).
