Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In academic year 2017, the research group made good progress better than expected. Especially the goal to develop a tool kit for supporting teachers using the CEFR efficiently for course planning and teacher development has been almost reached. During the academic year 2017 not only presentations were given (at Pan SIG 2017 and JACET), but a major step forward was made during an intensive seminar in September inviting CEFR-skilled practioners from various universities to discuss with the research group a way how the complexity of the information layers of which can do descriptors consists, can be modified by teachers to fit their contextual needs in classroom. With this confirmational feedback, the results could be presented in November 2017 at JALT International Conference in Tsukuba. The research group did hold several research meetings throughout the year working on details e.g. curriculum, assessment, the language portfolio, task based learning and teacher training.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
During the academic year 2017 the research results were discussed with various teacher groups to confirm if the concept and the results of the research are feasible. The presentations of the research results showed to be easy to understand and to be applied by practioners in their teaching context. The feedback was very helpful. The September intensive seminar brought a major step forward and the results were presented at JALT International conference in Tsukuba. The research group will be able to disseminate in academic year 2018 the results and develop a CEFR-informed tool kit (online cefrjapan.net and in print) to help teachers using the CEFR can do descriptors efficiently for their course planning.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In academic year 2018, the third and the final year of the research project, the goal is to set up a tool kit for foreign language teachers to use the CEFR efficiently for their classroom teaching. The tool kit will be available online (cefrjapan.net) first and aims to support teachers in modifying and adapting the CEFR can do descriptors to their specific teaching context. A book publication is also planned, to give the teachers a hands-on and clearly prepared document to use. All activities will focus on preparing materials for disseminating the results in presentations, online and in print. One reason of the smooth progress is the strong commitment and integrity of all research members of this group.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The money will be used to disseminate the research results: presentation at conferences (Pan SIG, CERCLES 2018, JALT International) and other events are planned.
