Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The meaning to product sugar in the country is considered from Edo period to present. Sugar is the close seasoning for us. Most sugar was imported in the Edo Period first term.A considerable trade started to be produced in country in the Edo Period latter period.White sugar as well as brown sugar are also so for this tendency.Key words of this sugar domestic development are national interests.This thought of national interests was also brought to whole commercial crop as well as sugar production.A change from production in the former cereal center was brought. I heard from a sugar producer in Amami-oshima (brown sugar) and Tokushima (three tray sugar).I heard the current state of the sugar production.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
「国益」という概念は古いが、江戸時代後期に登場した言葉である。江戸時代前期は、米や五穀生産(大麦、大豆、小麦、粟、稗、小豆など)が中心であったが、輸入防遏(国益)をスローガンとすることで、輸入品の国産化が推進される。その重要物資が砂糖であった。幕末までに、黒砂糖はほとんど国内産で賄われ、白砂糖もおおよそ生産されるようになる。近世の場合、「国益」の範囲は日本、幕藩制国家、藩、国郡制の国など多様である。そして、こうした発想は、幕藩体制の地殻変動を招くこととなり、幕藩制社会を揺るがすことにもつながった。
