Outline of Final Research Achievements |
It is becoming apparent that cellular interaction between neuronal cells and glial cells contributes to pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disease. I have developed a system to analyze the transcriptome of cocultured neurons and glial cells without mechanical isolation. Using this system, I discovered unique features in neurodegenerative patient-derived astrocytes, which lead to novel therapeutic application.
