Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The use of high pressure and high temperature synthesis has allowed the stabilisation of the mixed anionic compounds which cannot be obtained at ambient pressure. We have prepared LiNbO3-type structures ABO2N as well as double perovskites with the general formula A2BB'O6-xNx. The former can contain small 3d elements at the A site leading to large distortions within the material. The latter contains 3d ions and 5d ions at the B site and rare-earth elements (A3+) at the A-site. The investigation of their structure (crystal structure, symmetry and ionic ordering) and properties (magnetic) was performed and will be published in peer-reviewed journal. This project has allowed a better understanding of the feasibility and limitations of novel perovskite structures in general. The study of this approach will be continued and hopefully extended.
