Outline of Annual Research Achievements

平成29年度は，113番元素ニホニウム（Nh）の気相化学実験に必要なNh-284を合成するため，回転式アクチノイド元素標的と放射線検出器系の開発を行った．本研究では，Am-243 + Ca-48 → Mc-288 + 3n反応でまず115番元素Mc-288を合成し（8.5 pb），これが半減期164 msで瞬時にα壊変して生成する半減期0.91 sのNh-284を化学実験に用いる計画である．平成29年度は，高放射性のAm-243を模擬して，まず安定元素Gd-nat（nat: 天然同位体組成）を用い，大面積分子電着法により厚さ2 μmのチタン箔上に高収率でGd-natを電着する技術を開発した．電着セルの形状，溶媒組成，電着電圧，電着温度，電着時間などの多数のパラメーターを最適化し，80%以上の高収率で大面積（2.52 cm2）に標的を作製する技術を確立した．この16枚の標的を直径20 cmの円盤上に配置し，大強度重イオンビーム照射に向けた回転式標的を作製した．これにより，従来の約2倍の大強度ビーム照射が可能となった．
理研気体充填型反跳核分離装置GARISの焦点面に飛行時間測定器とSi半導体検出器で構成される放射線検出系を開発した．この検出器系によって，生成したMc-288のおよその質量数，Mc-288イオンが検出器に打ち込まれた位置と運動エネルギー，Mc-288とその娘核の放射性壊変に伴って放出されるα粒子や核分裂片のエネルギーと寿命を記録することができる．
Nhの気相化学分析装置は，GARISの焦点面に高周波カーペットガスセルと高周波多重極ビームガイドから構成される超重元素イオン収集システムの設計と製作を進めた．このシステムにより，超重元素の合成から化学装置までの壊変ロスを最小限に抑え，Nh-284の収量を飛躍的に増大する計画である．

高周波カーペットガスセルと次年度開発予定の低温ガスクロマトグラフ装置の接合部の設計に予定以上の時間を要したため．

Strategy for Future Research Activity

平成30年度は，超重元素の気相化学分析を行うために必要な低温ガスクロマトグラフ装置を開発する．ガスクロマトグラフカラムは32対のシリコン半導体検出器で構成し，末端を液体窒素で冷却し，室温から液体窒素温度付近まで温度勾配をかける．カラムを通過した後のガスは，カラム末端から真空ポンプを用いて排気する．本研究で対象とするNh，CnならびにFlは，強い相対論効果の影響で電子構造が閉殻構造となり，常温で希ガス元素Rnのように気体になり，化学的不活性を示すことが予測されている．カラム内に入った超重元素単体は，カラム固定相と吸脱着相互作用を繰り返しながらアルゴンガスとともにカラム内を進む．単体原子が吸着し，αまたはSF壊変した検出器位置から元素固有の収率分布を得ることができる．これをモンテカルロシミュレーションし，超重元素の固定相に対する吸着エントロピーを導出する．低温ガスクロマトグラフ装置の開発は， Ac-227線源から娘核として生成するRn-219をアルゴンとともにガスセルに導入し，装置開発を進める．平成31年度以降のNh，CnならびにFlの化学実験に向けて，これら元素の軽い同族元素の既知の化学的性質や相対論的量子化学計算の予測などを参考とし，超高速低温ガスクロマトグラフ装置の多数のパラメーター（ガス圧，ガス流量，カラム温度など）を最適化する．さらに，平成30年度は，Nh-284の製造に向けたAm-243酸化物標的の作製を行う．
