Outline of Annual Research Achievements

研究体制は、研究手法をもとに、理論・力学モデル班、データ解析班、現業的応用実験班、からなる3班体制とし、各班が密接に連携をして、階層的数値モデル群を駆使した系統的実験、得られたデータを基にした理論構築、および新理論に基づく観測解析データ・モデル出力データの解析を行い、総合的研究を推進している。各班の平成30年度の研究実績の概要は以下の通りである:
(1)理論・力学モデル班: 成層圏部分を十分に解像する三次元領域気象モデルを長期間時間積分することにより、成層圏でらせん状に風向変化する水平平均風の場が回転・変形しつつ下方に位相伝播する自励的周期的変動解を初めて得た。また、全球メカニスティック大気モデルの構築に必要な球面調和関数変換において、新しい漸化式を発見したことにより、変換に必要な計算時間を大幅に削減することに成功した。
(2)データ解析班: 気象庁長期再解析データJRA-55と衛星データを用いて、2018年2月に生起した極渦分裂型の成層圏大規模突然昇温現象について、熱帯域を中心に下部熱圏高度までの力学場の詳細な解析を行い、過去の事例との比較を行った。赤道成層圏準二年周期振動(QBO)に伴う北半球冬季極渦や亜熱帯ジェットの変動状態とその変動機構を調査した。また、全球非静力モデルと客観解析データを用いて、成層圏力学場が台風の発生・発達に与える影響の評価を行った。
(3)現業的応用実験班: 熱帯成層圏におけるQBOを再現できる気象研究所地球システムモデルを用いて、地球温暖化に伴う気候変化を調べる実験を行った。そのモデル出力データや再解析データを解析して、成層圏から対流圏への影響について調べた。QBOがインド洋から西部太平洋にかけての北半球夏季季節内振動の強さに影響を及ぼすこと、成層圏突然昇温がとくに南太平洋での対流活動および熱帯低気圧の発生頻度に影響を及ぼすことを明らかにした。

Reason

各班とも研究は概ね順調に進展している。昨年度と同様に、5月の日本気象学会春季大会、日本地球惑星科学連合2018年大会等で、関連研究者が集合し、各班の研究手法の確認なども含めて情報共有を行った。
2018年10月1~5日、京都みやこめっせで開催された第6回SPARC(Stratosphere-Troposphere Processes And their Role in Climate)総会に、本研究分担者・協力者のほとんどが参加して、最新研究成果の発表、および国際共同研究の打合せ等を行った。また、4日11:30~13:00には同会場の会議室でSATIO-TCS (Stratospheric And Tropospheric Influences On Tropical Convective Systems)のサイドミーテイングを開催し、本研究と直接関係する国際共同研究展開に関する研究連携打合せを行った。これらの概要は、SPARC Newsletter No52 (2019) p.24-26に報告済みである。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後も引き続いて、短期間の成層圏突然昇温から、QBO、成層圏寒冷化までの成層圏変動ごとに、熱帯域における湿潤対流駆動の多階層な連結変動への下方影響を評価し、予測改善インパクト実験を行う。また、課題ごとにデータ解析と数値実験を並行して実施する。
(1)理論・力学モデル班: 熱帯域湿潤対流の多階層連結変動に関する理論展開を目指して、領域気象モデルを用いて積雲対流の集団化組織化に対する成層圏影響の評価実験を進める。また、計算高速化を図った大気大循環力学モデルにより、不安定周期変動解の数値的解析を進めていく。
(2)データ解析班: データ整備と更新を継続し、2018年12月末から2019年1月にかけ、長く継続して生起した大規模成層圏突然昇温に注目し、下部熱圏高度までの詳細な解析を行って、従前の事例との比較研究を進める。
(3)現業的応用実験班: 成層圏の変動を再現できる気象研究所地球システムモデル、および領域非静力学モデルによる実験結果から、成層圏から対流圏の熱帯対流活動・季節内変動・熱帯低気圧等への下方影響の評価を行う。
また、国内の定期的研究集会では、研究参画者ができる限り集合して、進捗状況の確認と情報交換を行うとともに、国内外の関連研究集会に積極的に参加して、最新成果を発表し研究交流をさらに進める。さらに、今年度末に京都で成層圏-対流圏結合を軸とした国際研究集会を開催して、3年間にわたる研究推進の総まとめを行う。
