Outline of Annual Research Achievements

食物連鎖を推定するためのゲノム解析試料を行うため、平成29年5月には、ビーズ式破砕装置を購入し、ゲノム解析試料を調整するための予備実験を行い、今後得られるゲノム解析試料の調整が短時間で可能であることが分かった。
平成29年度の南大洋における現場観測は、平成29年度東京海洋大学「海鷹丸」南極航海（平成29年12月31日～平成30年1月22日）において実施した。動・植物プランクトン、魚類稚仔を採集するとともに、ゲノム解析用試料を持ち帰った。当初計画では、表層ブイシステムを作製し、中規模渦発生海域に投入する予定であったが、観測時間を十分に確保することが出来ないことが判明したため、平成29年度の投入は断念した。
日豪の研究協力強化に関しては、平成29年8月12～16日に、SOOS RWG - Southern Ocean Indian Sector Working Group 2017 Meetingを神奈川県葉山町で開催した。この会議は、南極研究科学委員会（the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR)）、及び海洋研究科学委員会（the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR)）が主導する、Southern Ocean Observing System（SOOS）における海区毎のワーキンググループ（Regional Working Group (RWG)）の一つである。日本とオーストラリアの主要研究海域である南大洋インド洋区では、Southern Ocean Indian Sector Working Groupを組織している。日豪の研究者が中心となり、南大洋インド洋区で研究を行っているフランス・中国・インドの研究者が参加した。また、「海鷹丸」が南極航海を終え、オーストラリア・ホバートへ寄港した際には、タスマニア大学のInstitute for Marine and Antarctic Studies （IMAS）においてUmitaka Maru Seminarを開催し、今後とも海洋研究分野における日豪の協力を進めることを確認した。

Reason

平成29年度の「海鷹丸」南極航海において、生物種の分布特性を調べるための動・植物プランクトン、魚類稚仔の試料を採集することが出来た。また、動物プランクトン・魚類稚仔では、消化管を摘出した試料、糞粒試料を用いて、食物連鎖を推定するためのゲノム解析用の試料を得ることが出来た。ゲノム解析試料調整の予備実験から、現場で得られた試料を迅速に解析用試料に調整できる。
本課題と深く関わる「南極海洋生態系センティネル研究－事前観測－」（科学研究費補助金　基盤研究（Ａ）（海外学術調査）（平成24～28年度）（研究代表者：小達恒夫））等で得られた成果を取りまとめ、学術雑誌Polar Scienceの特集号として公表している（平成29年7月）。また、この特集号に間に合わなかった成果については、関連学会等で発表している。本課題で得られた成果についても、迅速に公表して行く研究組織であるといえる。
日豪の研究協力強化に関しては、SOOS RWG - Southern Ocean Indian Sector Working Group 2017 Meetingを両国が中心となって開催し、南大洋インド洋区の海洋研究におけるリーダーシップを発揮することが出来た。また、Umitaka Maru Seminarにおいても、海洋研究分野における日豪の協力を進めることを確認することが出来た。
以上のことから、「おおむね順調に進展している」と判断した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

平成30年度においては、平成29年度までに行われた「海鷹丸」南極航海において得られた動・植物プランクトン、魚類稚仔試料、およびゲノム解析用試料の解析を実施する。特に、動物プランクトン・魚類稚仔では、消化管を摘出した試料を用いて、食物連鎖を推定するためのゲノム解析試料を行う。これらの解析から不足していると考えられる試料については、平成30年度に実施される「海鷹丸」南極航海において採集する。
また、これまでに得られた試料の解析の研究成果を、平成30年4月にホバート市で開催される2018 Marine Ecosystem Assessment of the Southern Ocean Conference（MEASO2018）において発表する。MEASO2018期間中には、今後の南大洋センティネル計画（Southern Ocean Sentinel）における日豪協力体制について議論することにしている。MEASO2018における各国の動き、および日豪の議論を受けて、平成30年7月に東京で開催される第4回南極科学に関する日豪ワークショップにおいて、海洋生態系分野における日豪協力の進展および今後の方向性について報告する。
