| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
As of March, we completed the recruitment of 903 TB patients into the ST-ATT cohort from 15 sites in Metro Manila (N=184), Cebu (N=346) and Negros Occidental (N=372). Baseline data have already summarized and several abstracts such as comorbidities of TB patients and diabetes management among TB patients were submitted to academic congress. Especially we found that more than half of diabetic patients with TB did not have previous history of diagnosis of diabetes at baseline.
So far, 476 individuals completed TB treatment, 27 deaths and 63 lost to follow-up. Four PhD student projects included in the cohort have progressed well and have completed data collection: (i) the analysis of the patient economic costs (N=530); (ii) mixed methods study of the integration of diabetes management in TB (N=182 diabetics), (iii) psychosocial risk factors for poor treatment compliance during TB treatment (N=250) and pilot study of immune evaluation of novel antigens to differentiate active from latent TB (Blood samples N=78).
