Outline of Final Research Achievements

This research project was conducted to elucidate how "3D(three-dimensional)" objects are represented, processed, and identified along the dorsal and ventral visual streams of the human brain. Although the COVID-19 pandemic since 2020 caused a big damage and forced us to change the proposed research plan, we were able to complete several fMRI experiments that were originally planned. In particular, the most significant achievement was the identification of the existence of human-specific 3D information processing cortical pathways through an interspecies comparative study of brain activity between monkeys and humans (in collaboration with KU Leuven (Belgium), University of Cambridge (UK), and others).

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
