| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
環境物質の同位体置換分子種（アイソトポログ）の自然存在度を計測して、地質、生物、人為の各プロセスとその相互作用で決まる地球表層環境を統一的に診断する研究を推進した。アイソトポログには、部位別同位体分布（PSIA）、非質量依存同位体分別（MIF）、多重同位体置換（Clumped）の3置換モードがある。これら全ての解析が唯一可能な本チームは、その強みを生かし、要素ごと、および3 要素を融合した異次元のアイソトポログ計測法を構築し、世界標準とし、各プロセスとその相互作用を解析し、地球表層環境診断を行っている。
これらの実績に対して代表者は紫綬褒章を含む国内外の賞を受賞し、分担者も国外の賞を受賞した。
高分解能質量分析計を賃貸により導入し、他の計測法とのクロスチェックと国際標準化のための標準物質の作成を開始した。さらにフッ化法などを新規に導入することで、大きな進展があった。N2Oや炭化水素などはPSIAだけでなく、Clumpedと融合的に解析することでより高次の解析を行った。これまでに蓄積したNMRとの相互校正など、本研究チームが包括的に計測法の開発ができていることで、目標を超える進展があった。標準物質の作成や、国外の3つの同位体置換モードに特異的に強いグループともよく情報共有で来ているため、国際校正もスムーズに準備できている。特に、スイスEMPAや米国MITのレーザー分光研究者との良好な科学的関係が加速している。地質、生物、人為の各プロセスへの応用については、岩石圏から大気海洋へ供給されるメタン・炭化水素、大規模火山噴火後の大気化学過程と気候変動、環境変化に伴う炭素固定系変化の解明、環境変化に伴うVOC代謝変化の解明、地球温暖化影響に関する試料採取および模擬実験系の構築、人為起源汚染物質に関する試料採取と分析をさらに進めた。

Reason
PNAS誌やScience Advances誌を含む科学誌に34編の原著論文を公表。学会発表は64件、うち招待講演16件、国際会議発表36件であった。計測法開発に関わる特許も1件取得した。
研究代表者は東京工業大学教育賞およびAOGS卓越講師賞の受賞に加えて、本計画の根幹部分の研究実績が高く評価され、紫綬褒章を受章するとともに、AGUフェローに選出された。研究分担者の上野雄一郎はGSのインガーソン講師賞を受賞した。以下、特筆すべき進捗の例を示す。
A)計測法開発および国際標準化
A-1)PSIA：C2-C4有機分子の熱分解を用いたPSIA計測法を開発し国際標準物質を整備し比較較正を主導。A-2)Clumped:メタンの13C-2H、2H-2H-Clumped計測法を開発しCaltechの研究協力者と、生物・非生物起源の判別に必要な精度での分析法を確立。熱平衡メタン標準試料を作製し、MITの研究協力者と比較校正。A-3)MIF：チャンバー実験により、MIFの圧力依存性を確立し、地球初期大気の全圧が現在以下であると推定。
B)各プロセスへの応用
B-1)地質プロセス：北西太平洋でH218Oトレーサー培養法による光合成速度の観測を実施し、酸素消費時の同位体分別の影響を受けないΔ17Oを用いた方法を開発。B-2)生物プロセス：RuBisCO酵素における速度論的同位体効果を解明。触媒反応には遷移状態が存在せず、インレット構造内をCO2が拡散する速度が全反応速度を決定していることを世界で初めて見出した。VOCsの例として試薬および生物試料のアセトンPSIAで生物と人為プロセスの判別を可能とした。B-3)人為プロセス：人為起源汚染物質に関する試料採取と分析に関連して、大気硫黄循環に重要な硫化カルボニルや硫酸エアロゾルの新規アイソトポログ分析手法を確立して、南極を含む様々な大気試料を採取し、解析。

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
本研究では、A)同位体トレーサーの計測法開発および国際標準化を行い、B)さまざまな環境試料に適用することで研究目的に述べた各プロセスを解明し、地質-生命-人為の相互作用を統一的に解析する診断法して提示する。次のように研究実施する。
A) 計測法開発と国際標準化:PSIA、Clumped、MIFの新たな同位体分子計測法開発を継続する。OCS、プロパン、ブタンなどの計測法を開発したので、これらの国際標準試料を作成する。低分子アミノ酸アラニンについて標準試料を作成したので、国際標準化を進める。新たな計測法の開発を進めるとともに、B)で可能なものへの応用に進む。
B) 各プロセスへの応用：B-1)地質プロセス：岩石圏から大気海洋系へ供給されるメタン・炭化水素プロセス解明を遂行するため、天然ガス田・温泉湧出口・熱水噴出口・泥火山など多様な温度・生態系環境からの試料採取して解析を行う。さらに、炭化水素類の分子内同位体比変化理解のため、実験室における培養・模擬実験と数値計算モデルを構築中である。B-2)生物プロセス：脂肪酸・有機酸・アミノ酸などより大きな代謝物の分子内同位体比数値計算モデルの拡張を行う。炭化水素類も含めて有機分子のClumpedとPSIAを融合させた岩石圏から大気海洋系への供給過程診断・環境変化に伴う代謝変化を診断する。B-3)人為プロセス：南極・昭和基地で採取した大気試料により、過去20年にわたる南半球N2Oのアイソトポログ組成の変動を解明し、北半球の結果と総合して解析する。微生物の培養実験を継続し、生成するN2OのPSIAとClumpedの計測を行い、生成過程の質的・量的変化の検証を継続する。石川県珠洲市でのエアロゾル採取に加えて中国における試料採取・観測を開始したので、計測と解析を進め、東アジア域で進行する光化学オキシダント・大気エアロゾル生成の関連を解明する。
