Outline of Annual Research Achievements

近年,接触構造,シンプレクティック構造などの幾何的構造を本質的に取り入れることで,トポロジー,特に低次元の幾何的トポロジーにおいて,著しく重要で斬新な結果が多数得られている.本研究では,そうした具体的かつ強力な幾何的アイデアや,低次元トポロジー固有の豊かな理論を写像の特異点論の世界に持ち込むことで,既存の概念・定式化・手法を革新し,特に大域的特異点論の飛躍的発展を図ること,そして逆に幾何的トポロジーに写像の特異点論から新しい道を切り開き,重要な問題の解決を図ることが目的である.平成29年度は,まず多様体対上の写像の特異ファイバーについて詳しく調べ,その分類を行い,対応する同境群の非自明性を示すことに成功した.また,4次元多様体上の写像の変形操作のうち常に実現可能であるものをリストアップし,それを用いて,与えられた写像を単純化するアルゴリズムを確立した.その結果,特異シンプレクティック構造に付随した特異Lefschetz構造の存在定理,また単純化されたtrisectionの存在定理を,具体的かつ構成的に証明することに成功した.次年度以降は曲面の写像類群を特異Lefschetz束等の特異写像の記述に用い,定義域多様体との関連を調べることが課題となる.3次元多様体からユークリッド空間への写像に対する新しい不変量を構成することにも成功したが,量子不変量との関係については次年度以降の課題となる.その他,データ可視化・多目的最適化等,諸科学分野への応用についても研究を開始した.また,学術研究員を1名雇用し,幾何的トポロジーと特異点論の研究を推進した.さらに,特異点論やその周辺分野の若手研究者を中心に集め,これからの特異点論とトポロジーの研究の指針について討論し,今後の世界的なleading research groupの形成と新研究領域創成を目指した研究集会を鹿児島大学にて開催した.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

多様体対上の写像の特異ファイバーの分類や,そのVassiliev複体のコホモロジーの計算などが順調に進み,対応する同境群の非自明性が示せたことは,ある程度予期していたこととは言え,研究が順調に滑り出したことを物語っている.さらに,4次元多様体上の写像の単純化アルゴリズムを構成的に確立し,特異Lefschetz構造を出発点に,単純化されたtrisectionを構成する手法を編み出したことは,当該分野に大きなインパクトを与えた.そのことは該当する論文がProc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USAに掲載決定されたことからも伺える.また雇用した学術研究員は,特異点論を使って,Positive Topological Field Theoryの具体例を構成することに成功したほか,25年来の未解決問題であったMilnorによる7次元異種球面上の特異写像に関する問題を解決することに成功するなど,顕著な活躍を行った.また,代表者を中心に,特異点論の多目的最適化への応用研究を,当該分野の研究者と協力して開始することができた.総じて,本研究課題は順調に進展しているといえる.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後は上述したような課題に,幾何的トポロジーや低次元トポロジーの手法やアイデアを援用しながら,当初計画したような形で取り組んでいく.また,それだけではなく,多項式写像の位相的研究にも着手し,4次元多様体論などを駆使しながら,4次元ポアンカレ予想の否定的解決に至る可能性のある可縮4次元多様体をMilnorファイバーにもつ多項式写像芽を構成していく.さらに,3次元多様体上の写像に対して構成した不変量はorder 1のVassiliev型不変量となるが,そうしたものが他にもないか,対応するVassiliev複体を計算することで詳しく調べていく.また,そうした不変量が既存の量子不変量とどう関係するのかを,それぞれの定義や性質を見極めることで明らかにしてゆく.さらに,特異点論のデータ可視化への応用として,特異ファイバーを同定するアルゴリズムを,その分類理論に基づいて確立し,具体的なデータの可視化に役立てるべく,当該分野の研究者との共同研究を推進してゆく.また,写像の特異点論の立場から多目的最適化におけるパレート集合の分類や特徴づけの問題にも取り組む.
