Outline of Annual Research Achievements

高次トポロジカル相に関して独自の量子化ベリー位相と量子もつれの方法を用いて,電子系から古典系に至る多様な系で,バルク・エッジ対応を拡張したバルク・コーナー対応を確立しその普遍性を広く示した。また,第一原理電子構造計算による現実の物質における平坦バンドの起源を独自の分子軌道基底の方法で解明しバルク・コーナー対応を示した。また強相関電子系における高次トポロジカルモット絶縁体,磁場下の高次トポロジカル絶縁体を提案し,平方根トポロジカル相の概念や非エルミート系のトポロジカル相の理論など多彩な新概念の意義を確立した。
冷却原子について、トポロジーと乱れの非自明な現象を実験的に見出すことに成功した。乱れの存在によってはじめてサウレスポンプが誘起される現象を実験で確認した。これは固体物質で長年追求されてきたトポロジカルアンダーソン絶縁体の「空間+時間の1+1次元系」における現象であり,トポロジーと乱れに関する新分野の開拓である。また冷却原子の量子計量テンソルの測定にも成功した。
放射光ARPES実験に関して HfSiSやZrSiS等,非共型な空間群に属するディラック線ノード半金属のスピンテクスチャの直接的観測を行った。また層状反磁性体MnBi2Te4の表面状態を観測し,反強磁性トポロジカル絶縁体であることを実証した。また銅酸化物高温超伝導体の終端面に依存する電子状態の観測に成功し,今後の表面のアンドレーエフ束縛状態やトポロジカル表面状態の観測につながる成果を得た。
マイクロ波領域カイラルフォトニック結晶においてエッジ状態やWeyl点近傍での特異な電磁波の振る舞いを観測した。2次元フォトニック結晶におけるコーナー状態の観測にはじめて成功した。さらに、ライトラインより低周波数領域においてヘリカルエッジ状態を有する新たなトポロジカルフォトニック結晶構造を見出し、低損失光導波路への応用可能性を示した。

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

理論的研究に関して,2011年に代表等が理論的に発案していた量子化ベリー位相が近年発見された高次トポロジカル相におけるバルクの不変量であることが確立し,広く用いられるようになった。また,強相関電子系における高次トポロジカルモット絶縁体の新概念を世界に先駈けて提案し,独自の量子化ベリー位相を用いてバルク・エッジ(コーナー)対応を確立することができた。
冷却原子に関して,乱れ誘起サウレスポンプの観測、光格子および光トラップ中での冷却原子の量子計量テンソルの測定、など当初の目標を超える研究の進展があった。
放射光ARPES実験に関して,MnBi2Te4が反強磁性トポロジカル絶縁体であることを世界で初めて実証した。(本成果は,Natureに12月に掲載され,プレス発表を行ったところ日経産業新聞に研究成果に関する記事が掲載された(2020年1月21日6面)。)
ナノフォトニクスのプラットフォームにおけるコーナー状態の観測を世界に先駆けて報告したほか、想定外の成果として新たな2次元トポロジカルフォトニック結晶構造を見出すことができた。
以上の具体的な進展をもって,当初予定より進展していると自己評価する。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

トポロジカル相の研究を実験的に観測可能な問題へ還元することで,バルクエッジ対応が適用可能な現象を広く探索し概念を深化させ,バルクエッジ対応の普遍性の確立を目指す。より多様な量子/古典で,広義のエッジ状態を開拓し独自の理論で解析する。また,平坦バンドやディラック分散,電子相関,非エルミート系など未開拓な問での新しい展開も目指す。
冷却原子に関しては、乱れ誘起サウレスポンプの定量的な理解を進め,トポロジカル超流動では,巨大質量比の原子混合系による実験を進める。サイト分解可能な量子多体系ではスピン分解型の量子気体顕微鏡の開発を原子の内部自由度を利用する。さらに、光格子中の原子の量子計量テンソルの測定についても実験と理論の定量的な比較を行う。
放射光ARPES実験に関して,非共型な空間群に属する希土類化合物を主に,高輝度放射光やレーザー光を励起光源とした角度分解光電子分光や3次元スピン角度分解光電子分光装置を用い,バルクのディラックコーンやディラック線ノードに加え,表面バンド構造や特異な3次元スピン構造の直接観測を行なう。またバルク強磁性体におけるワイル点や,それらをつなぐエッジ状態を観測し,バルクエッジ対応を確立する。更に超伝導体表面のアンドレーエフ束縛状態やトポロジカル表面状態の観測も継続し奇周波数クーパー対形成や関連するバルクエッジ対応についての理解を深化させる。
フォトニック結晶実験に関してはマイクロ波帯で機能するカイラルフォトニック結晶に関する実験を継続し、バレーフォトニック結晶導波路とその光集積回路素子への応用を目指した研究を進める。また、バレーフォトニック結晶を用いた共振器構造など検討し、そのアクティブ光素子への応用可能性を検討する。さらに、理論グループとの定期的議論を継続し、フォトニック結晶におけるバルクエッジ対応を基礎とした新たな展開も探求する。
