Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In classical economic models, commodities are assumed to be divisible. However, in real economic problems, commodities are often indivisible. Examples of such commodities include houses or cars. When we analyze markets with indivisibility, we cannot apply fundamental mathematical tools such as calculus or topology. As an alternative tool, I applied discrete convex analysis, a branch of discrete mathematics, to economic models with indivisibility. As a result, I provided new mathematical methods for understanding existing results in a unified manner. I also applied economic theory to real-world allocation problems of indivisible commodities and offered a new perspective on the desirability/fairness of allocations.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
