Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The main purpose of the proposed research is to deepen our understanding on the indigenous environmental worldviews and their implications for global environmental sustainability. The second part of the research ventured into an in-depth assessment on the concept of environmental values and their relationship with environmental behavior and action. At the same time, field trips were conducted in Sarawak and Sabah in Borneo Malaysia and Balikpapan in Indonesia to collect more data on the indigenous environmental worldviews. Initial findings of this field research indicate that there is a close link between the ways humans view nature and environmental sustainability. It further confirms the importance of environmental ethics in promoting pro-environmental behaviors and actions.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The second part of the research successfully gathered the necessary data for a preliminary analysis on the connection between indigenous worldviews and the ethical principle of sustainable resource use and management and environmental conservation. This adds a great deal of importance to the study of the UN framework of sustainable development in association with the practicality of the ethical concepts in promoting environmental sustainability. This line of analysis also sheds further insights into the whole intellectual structure of the research plan and provides an important vantage point for a more vigorous study on the ethical-environmental link in global environmentally sustainable development study.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The last part of the research will make a final attempt to collect more data to lend force to the assessment thus far conducted. Once the whole set of data is in order, a grand analysis of the nexus of indigenous worldviews, environmental ethics and sustainable development will be carried out. The analysis will be compiled into various articles or a book. The findings of the research are expected to provide important insights to scholars on the paradoxical positions of the United Nations. It also expected to provide immense guidelines in promoting sustainable development practices in various parts of the world.
